ORIGINAL QUESTION:
Supply Chain Management
A supply chain involves all the activities associated with how manufacturing, materials, facilities, personnel, transportation, inventory, and other items flow and a supply chain involves all the activities associated with how manufacturing, materials, facilities, personnel, transportation, inventory, and other items flow and then are transformed into goods and services. Every asset, information, and process is part of the supply chain. For this Discussion, you will be addressing how the supply chain works and possible issues you may encounter.
Within this complex system, operation management responsibilities can be both strategic and tactical.
Examine the place where you currently work, or a prior career, and identify a single service or product produced by your organization.
Identify the different components of the supply chain for that product or service (list them from beginning to end). Be sure to identify which parts of the supply chain are considered “upstream” and “downstream” exchanges.
Based on what you learned from your research, describe a single current issue that might negatively impact a company’s global supply chain.
STUDENT 1 RESPONSE:
“The provide sequence starts with suppliers, which can be as basic as raw material suppliers. These suppliers are generally known as upstream provide sequence associates, while the suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and ultimate end-use customers are generally known as downstream provide sequence associates.” (Russell & Taylor 2014, pg.) I work in a medical proper care environment which means we provide solutions instead of products. I will say this starts with the Front desk staff or customer support associates who take the calls and schedule the consultation, the team. Nursing staff as well as the suppliers type the upstream of this provide sequence. The Lab, radiology, drugstore and the other additional solutions type the downstream. At these levels, the sufferers have been clinically diagnosed and the necessary solutions are provided before them leaving the medical center or medical centers. The single issue that I will say impact our medical proper care solutions worldwide is government rules and plans. I have wellness insurance policy coverage in the US and that works everywhere else in the world but I will always need to have permission from the plan company before seeing a provider other than the one they allocated me. You can’t just travel anywhere as a doctor and set up medical centers without applying with the division that manages issues with insurance policy. You might not get paid because the plan is limited geographically.

STUDENT 2 RESPONSE:
The company I currently work for is Verizon and the service we provide is FIOS which is a cable, internet and phone service. The supply chain for providing FIOS to customers is as follows the manufacturing and delivering of fiber optic cables from suppliers, the placing of the cables in manholes and street pole by workers who then connect the cables with materials taken from the storage warehouse. The processing of orders by customer service for customers who request the service and then the installation of the service by technicians.
The upstream members of the supply chain would be considered the cable manufacturers and the placement of the materials for future use because these are the raw material providers (Russell, Taylor, 2014). The downstream members of the supply chain would be considered customer service department and installation technicians because this is where the distribution to the customers really takes place.
A single current issue that may negatively impact a company’s global supply chain is the source of their raw materials which they need to create a product or service for a customer. An example of this is Chipotle the Mexican grill company that uses “fresh locally sourced produce “for their foods (Stewart, 2016). This means that they are subject to whatever rules or regulations apply in each region they are getting their produce or raw materials from and some global locations may not uphold the same standards as others. By creating this type of supply chain Chipotle has left themselves vulnerable to things like their food being responsible for infecting people with E coli. This is an example of a global supply chain not utilizing one universal supplier that upholds standards that the supplied organization approves.
